The end of March was a great month for high profile White Dove Releases in the state of California. It appears that the economic events that have ravaged state coffers have not affected sport or celebrity.
Over the past couple of years, weddings in the US have seen a decline in many of the "extras" that get included in ceremonies and it makes sense. When times are tough, it's a lot easier to go without the white dove release than it is to forego say..... the cake or the photographer. Even honeymoons get trimmed a bit, going less for the exotic and more for the great yet low key, one new USA Bride trend even has some couples choosing to get married at the honeymoon destination, accompanied by family and close friends. None of that for actress Reese Witherspoon however, she chose to have 80 white doves released after her wedding on March 26 at her home in Ojai California.
Likewise, the sports franchises are rarely ones to spare expenses when it comes to wowing fans who come expecting to be shown a good time. Sports are often as much about entertainment as they are about the sport itself. One need look no farther than the incredible half-time shows during football season. Only 5 days after Witherspoon released doves in Ojai, on March 31st, fans at Dodger Stadium in L.A. were treated to a grand style release as a flock of white doves was released and circled around the stadium over a gigantic American flag. This annual tradition is performed by White Dove Release, in the greater L.A. area, but has not always come off without a hitch. In 2009 one white dove got confused when he got slightly separated from the flock and then saw the flock "flying" on the giant monitor. He tried to rejoin this virtual flock but found himself momentarily perched on the screen instead(YouTube Video). I was concerned when I first saw it, but by the end of the 2-min video, he does fly off, and in my experience would likely have made it home with the rest of the gang... albeit a minute or two late. Nice to see releases on that big a scale as most of the ones that I've seen or read about, though still much more established than what I do, are still smaller than these. Kudos to the white pigeons guys in California.... you've got me California dreamin. :)
